Others have reported similar problems in the past with the WKUSB devices,
whereas other versions work OK.

Which model of K1EL MicroKeyer?  WKUSB?  WKSerial?  Or microHAM MK2R / MK2R+
or ?

Which microkeyer chip?  V21 or V22?  Win-Test reports what it detects during
start-up.

Which virtual COM port are you using?  Any similarities or differences
between the software configuration of the computers that worked vs. those
that didn't, especially with respect to the virtual COM port number, or
presence or absence of other USB-to-Serial adapters?
