Well done Bob, but I don't really understand why this would make a
difference. The DTR (DE-9 pin 4) and RTS (DE-9 pin 7) lines are not
connected to the 6 PIN CAT connector, are they? Are they shorted together?

>From the FT-1000(D) Operating Manual:

*CAT Connector*
Pin 1: GND
Pin 2: SERIAL OUT
Pin 3: SERIAL IN
Pin 4: PTT
Pin 5: S/PO (does anyone know what this means?)
Pin 6: NC

What version of EPROM is in these radios?

>From the FT-1000(D) Operating Manual Errata & Addendum:

"To improve the versatility of external computer control of the FT-1000, a
facility to read back only the current memory number, or a 16-byte block of
VFO or specified memory parameters has been added to EPROM Q5003 on the
Control Unit, from revision 6.0.

"The installed EPROM revision number can be non-destructively checked by
holding the 1 and 3 keys at the upper corners of the keypad while switching
on. The revision number appears after the display test and manufacturer ID
display. If your revision is below 6.0, contact your Yaesu dealer for
availability and price of the upgrade."

Perhaps Win-Test assumes the FT-1000D is at EPROM revsion 6.0 or higher, and
will not read frequencies accurately if the radio has the old original EPROM
chips.
