[WT-support] WARNING: Windows Defender can and will delete Win-Test from your PC

Windows Defender often incorrectly flags wt.exe as a virus, a false
positive. This happened to a major competitor during CQ WW Phone this
year. He was running Win-Test version 4.53, causing much grief. Win-Test
was terminated and wt.exe was deleted *while he was using it.*

Pausing Windows Updates will NOT prevent Windows Defender from installing a
new signature file in the background and running a new scan.

I recommend telling Windows Defender to completely ignore the Win-Test
installation folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Win-test), then you
will not have any more problems.

To add an exclusion in Windows Defender, you can do the following:

   1. Select Start
   2. Open Settings
   3. Under Update and Security, select Windows Security
   4. Select Virus & threat protection
   5. Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings
   6. Scroll down. Under Exclusions, select Add or remove exclusions
   7. Click Add an exclusion
   8. Select exclusion type: Folder
   9. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Win-Test or wherever you installed
the program, and click Select Folder

You may also have trouble downloading the latest version of the Win-Test
installer, http://download.win-test.com/v4/bin/wt-4.54.0.exe, because many
browsers will put up big warnings about "this is not a secure site", and
even if you proceed, when you download the file, many modern browsers will
again force you to select "Keep anyway" in order to really save it.
Defender may also block the installation file, requiring you to add yet
another exclusion.

These issues could probably be avoided if the Win-Test installer used more
official signed ".msi" installation file (Microsoft Installer), but that
requires a lot of effort for the developers, and perhaps some fees to be
paid to Microsoft, so that may never happen.
