What is the version of your Winkeyer chip, Sigi?

I believe K1EL chips prior to the 2.3 version drop PTT between words
when fed characters via the serial interface which is extremely annoying.
I used to have a microHAM CW Keyer with a 2.1 chip which did the same thing.
I used COM port PTT to bridge the gaps.
