See this post for an explanation. Some newer or "economy" PCs do not emulate the old PC speaker "BIOS beep" functions used by the Win-Test SOUND command, so you are out of luck.

The first PCs could beep or make crude (square wave) sounds via an internal speaker, way before the invention of sound cards. The were accessed via I/O port 61h. Many manufacturers have decided to save money by omitting this now little-used PC speaker port, though some still emulate it.

  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_speaker

Once you get a USB-to-Serial converter, you should be able to send CW to your radio OK, but better yet would be something like a WinKey USB.

I've today acquired one of the small notebooks under Windoxs XP (Samsung). No problem installing Wintest ver 4. Everythink works fine, DVR as well.
But I cannot hear the CW messages. Of course, the souncard is working, the loudspeakers are on, and the Wintest SOUND command has been issued. Just one point however : this small sized computer has no serial port, has only USB ports, and I have no USB to serial adapter pluged in, so the COM-ports in the configuration page are all gray. Maybe there is the reason why I don't get anything, but I wan't to be sure there is no other cause.
    Any help ?
