I've the same problem with my 850's in combinaison with some PC too, 
using an optocoupler interface.

I think the problem was rather the capabilities for the LPT port to 
deliver enough current to the LED of the optocoupler. In some situation, 
the transistor is not saturate enough which causes the PTT signal not to 
be well detected by the radio. Then, I press VOX which is an easy fix! ;)
