<div dir="ltr">The main issue with Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 vs. Windows XP is sound card latency when using the Win-Test "Internal sound card" voice keyer (DVK). The traditional practice of plugging your microphone into the sound card mic. input and monitoring your audio in real time only works well with Windows XP and earlier. A few sound cards have a setting that avoids the latency in the mic. monitor, but most do not.<div>
<br></div><div>When using microHAM products, this should not be an issue if you route your microphone directly to the radio (except when recording messages).</div><div><br></div><div>Using fixed IP addresses is only helpful for debugging network issues using operating system commands like "ping". I'd actually recommend that all computers in a M/M network try DHCP first, <i>not</i> fixed IP. Only switch to using fixed IP addresses if there is a problem that cannot be resolved. DHCP makes it much easier to swap new computers into and out of the network while you are contesting, since Windows will do all the network configuration automatically.</div>

I decided to follow the advice from several helpful people and build my MM network of up to 15 computers based on stationary desktops with wired cat6 ethernet and fixed ip addresses. Hopefully that is as good as it gets. I was offered used desktops with Windows 8.<br>

Is this a no-no? W7 has been running fine for me so I do not wish to go back to XP. Is there a reason I should avoid W8 and prefer W7?? Are there any known compatibility issues with WT and/or Microham products?<br>
