Bob,
first: thank you for your information.
BUT: when I installed about 16 month ago (I was one of the first WT4-users) my WT 4 I renamed the installation directory!!
Nevertheless, the WT 3 was disabled!! That was thr reason, I asked!!
You are right: WT4 ist very reliable now! But this PC is used by more people - and they asked me - for a transitional period - to install also WT3. They have to get familiary with WT4. Than, we will delete WT3.
Thanks.

Klaus
dk1ax

2010/10/15 Bob Wilson, N6TV <n6tv@arrl.net>

I have to install my WT4 on another PC.
Now I have a question, I didn't find in your guide:
first time, I installed my new WT4 onto my laptop, automatically during the installation process, my old WT3 license was disabeled.
Larry helped me with a new registration code for WT3.
Now, on my new PC I want to keep WT3 too.
What is the right way NOT to disabel my WT3 during the installation of WT4?

When the install program prompts you for the installation directory, change C:\Program Files\Win-Test to C:\Program Files\WT4 or similar. Then register WT4. Your old copy of WT3 will continue to work. WT3 stores the registration key in C:\Program Files\Win-Test\wt.ini. WT4 stores a completely different registration key in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Win-Test\cfg\wt.ini (on Windows XP).

But, why do you need both WT3 and WT4 on the same computer? WT4 was released over 16 months ago, and it is very reliable at this point. WT4 will convert WT3 files (.WTB) to WT4 format automatically. You also have the problem of keeping two copies of MASTER.DTA and CTY_WT_MOD.DAT up to date if you want to continuously switch back and forth between WT3 and WT4.
