As <a href="http://www.f5mzn.org/pipermail/support/2009-October/078569.html">just posted recently</a>, Norton AntiVirus 10 is now (incorrectly I assume) flagging WT.EXE as a Trojan Horse or Virus, and that is the root cause of all the issues.<br>
<br>First re-install Win-Test 4.1 (do NOT install 4.0.1 has it has a very bad bug that can cause you to lose your log files). This is the file you want:<br><br><a href="http://download.win-test.com/v4/bin/wt-4.1.0.exe">http://download.win-test.com/v4/bin/wt-4.1.0.exe</a><br>
<br>During update, Norton may insist that WT.EXE is a virus. Select "Ignore". The installer may still have trouble because the old WT.EXE is locked. In that case you will have to install to a different directory like C:\Program Files\WT4 instead of C:\Program Files\Win-Test. Norton may find and flag WT.EXE as a virus later anyway.<br>
<br>Then download<br><br><a href="http://download.win-test.com/v4/nightly/wt_dev.zip">http://download.win-test.com/v4/nightly/wt_dev.zip</a><br><br>and unzip it to your Win-Test installation directory (C:\Program Files\WT4\). This will create wt_dev.exe, which Norton does <i>not</i> flag as a virus.<br>
<br>Then change your Win-Test icon or create another one so that it runs WT_DEV.EXE instead of WT.EXE. Just right click on the Win-Test Icon and select Properties and change the "Target" to <b>"C:\Program Files\WT4\wt_dev.exe"</b> (<i>with</i> the quotes).<br>
<br>If you removed all traces of Win-Test from your computer, you will need
to re-enter your registration code via Help | Register Software to get out of demo mode.<br><br>wt_dev.exe is version 4.2 "development beta" - so it may have new bugs. If you prefer to run 4.1, you'll have to disable Norton AntiVirus on your computer.<br>

firewall through this exercise.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">After enjoying the trial version of Win-Test, I purchased
the registered version a month ago, and used it often without any difficulties.
But then yesterday, I tried to run it and the application had
disappeared. The Vista Start Menu icon for Win-Test had reverted to a
generic icon although WtDxTelnet and WtRotator were still OK. (Maybe this
was caused by last week’s running of several anti- malware programs to
get rid of the Google Redirector virus?)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Next I tried to download version 4.0.1 from the web site, (I
had to enter my registration code at some point) and Win-Test opened perfectly
with all of the settings I had used previously. However, when I
exited it, I couldn’t later open it because again the application had
disappeared.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">In desperation, I deleted each and every reference to
Win-Test on my computer, including anything “win-test” in the
registry. That allowed me to download and run the demo version, but then
when I tried to again download the registered version 4.0.1, the Wizard seemed
to work, but apparently didn’t because only the demo version was still on
my computer. Oddly, this last time I downloaded it, I didn’t have
to enter my registration code anywhere, which might be part of the problem.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">When 4.0.1 was installing itself, I did get several error
messages, the first being that an error had occurred when trying to rename a
file in the destination directory: [MoveFile failed; Code2], which I had to
click “ignore” to continue, and later a Vista dialog questioning
about whether or not the program was installed correctly due to a possible
compatibility issue.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Any advice will be appreciated – before I pull out what
little hair I have left!</p>
